American Idol…it was a special Wednesday night performanc show last night (2/25) with the results to come tonight. Our Idol expert Darla Atlas joined us with her predictions…she is hopeful for Adam and Allison as the top two vote getters.  It is that third slot that is up for grabs. And for the AI purists among us, there is concern it could be Norman Gentle/Nick. Yes, the headband wearing silly guy who is hamming it up all the way through each round of the competition. How will America vote?  What city has the most support for their contestant? Since we are in Memphis, I am still hopeful for Jasmine from Mississippi (even though she was not as good as she needed to be last night) or the guy from Conway, Arkansas. We will all watch and see!

Also, just for fun, Darla not only blogs about American Idol she is also a columnist.  You can read her latest column at  www.dallasnews.com  go to the life/travel button then look under columnists and you’ll find it.….and yes, the Karen she is writing about is me. J

My wife just sent me this youtube video… Good facts/info, but it shows the value of continuous learning, and it’s kind of scary!  Check this link.

The past two weeks the Trinity Commons shooting in Cordova started a stream of community thought revolving (pardon the pun) around hand guns and hand gun permits.  The public relations “climax” (the perverbial gun shot to end the story) was the Commercial Appeal legally publishing the list (via the web too) of folks who have permits and where they are at.  That, plus any other info they can legally publish, they did.

My thought.  Brilliant move.  Showing my true geekiness, one of my more interesting things to follow is news media and public relations.  Newspaper is dying.  Which is why the link to the people listed on the CA site is much more relavent than any “press” or publicity the newspaper will receive in actual print.  In fact, they probably put as much emphasis on their on-line presense than on actual printed newspaper because of the death of newspaper in general.  The reality is the truly brilliant people in all this are Chris Peck and the Commercial Appeal staff who came up with the idea to ”publicize” publicizing the list.  I can think of worse legal ways of marketing a newspaper then delivering information.  Here’s the paper view.

I thought this article was great career advise that I try to follow as much as possible.  Basically, the article talks about focusing on work at work, and leaving all the BS, gossiping, disagreeing with, and personal issues at home.  Always a good refresher that most of us understand, but it’s always a good refresher!

PRESIDENT OBAMA will sign his economic stimulus bill tomorrow in Denver, putting into law $787 billion worth of spending he hopes will jump start the economy.
The bill is more than 17-hundred pages and no one in Congress read it all.
If you have some time to kill, (HERE) is a somewhat detailed list of the spending side of the stimulus package, and (HERE) is the tax side of things.
Still on the agenda: The federal budget bill, the next request for bank bailout funds and supplemental funding for the war in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Analysis: This is uncharted territory. You can sell all you want but no one can guarantee this plan will work, and you can naysay all you want but no one can guarantee this plan will fail.
About the only sure thing you can predict is what supporters and detractors will say and continue to say as they spout their tired talking points –again. (See, for instance yesterday’s Sunday morning talk shows.)
Meanwhile, nearly every economist thinks the economy is going to get worse before it gets better, so it’s a safe bet the detractors will say that the plan failed and supporters will say it needs more time –especially as we get closer to 2010, the year of midterm elections when Republicans hope they’ll be able to get back some seats in Congress. What, you don’t think that’s what this is really about?
The White House continues to temper expectations, warning that the economy has not yet reached bottom and that increased economic activity as a result of the legislation would “take time to show up in the statistics.”    (sc)

First off,  I found this knocking around this thing called the interent.  Wild technology.

Like Google earth…it’s like you’re an eagle able to see a million people and zoom in on indivduals from a very long distance.

I discovered that if you zoom in on the Supreme Court, sitting directly behind Barack, you can get a nice view of Clarence Thomas snoozing

You can scan and zoom to any section of the crowd. . . wait a few seconds. . . and the focus adjusts. The picture was taken with a robotic camera at 1,474 megapixel. (295 times the standard 5 megapixel camera)

Then,  if you haven’t seen it…try checking out the David Letterman Show from last night.   Just happened to stay up late to witness one of the all time weirdest interviews in Late night history.   Joaquin Phoenix has either lost it,  got stoned or is just plain goofy.
