So this weekend on Classic Hits 94.1 KQK, it’s a “Cover Weekend” playing the cover versions of featured songs…and then we play the original.  For example, I played Eric Clapton’s version of the orig. by Bob Marley and the Wailers.

Turns out, I’m not the first to ask “which is better” on this song, or for any of these different versions.  That said, weigh in here!  Since slow hand was my first concert ever, I gotta go with Clapton.

Anyway, thanks for checking out the blog today!  I’ll be at Funquest doing some bowling Saturday night (8/1) from 6 till 8 p.m. with the family.  I invite you to bring the family out and join me!  Great deal for 4 under $20!!! More here.

It’s here!  I’m not claiming to even own a video gaming system any more.  In fact, I laughed really hard when I recently saw Mickey Rourke’s “The Wrestler” (sidenote:  definitely not a movie for anyone under the age of 18, let alone 21!) because Rourke’s character still plays a late ’80s Nintendo with the kids in his trailer park.

But it looks like “The Beatles: Rock Band” which will be released on 9.9.9 is going to be huge!!! Just check out these trailers here

Well, it ranks right up there… I had the chance to golf with Justin Timberlake at his ultra-new and very cool golf course, Miramichi, yesterday!  He played #11 with my group.  I wasn’t expecting to golf with Justin, so I decided to shank my tee shot and take out 4 reporters and a couple photographers on the tee.

However, Carrie Anderson from Channel 5 actually made the play of the day.  Justin asked her if she wanted any advise, and she listened prior to her tee shot.  She then proceeded to hit the hole and nearly hit a hole in one.  JT and I almost jumped out of our skin!  Kudos Carrie!

Also, a pleasure to partner up with WREG’s Glen Carver and Peter Edmiston from WHBQ-AM.

Now on the with the show, a world-class golf experience @ Mirimichi… JT and his folks have a winner.  More at www.mirimichi.com.  Luckily, the cost to play this world class eco-friendly course isn’t out of this world, and it’s about 20 minutes from anywhere in the Mid-South.

Amazing course.  Amazing opportunity with today’s biggest star.  Giving back to the Mid-South.  And doing so in ULTRA COOL STYLE!  What a day.

My wife has always given me grief because I love to bike ride.  Having grown up around my grandpa’s farm with fishing, swimming, biking, and all sorts of fun outdoor activities, it’s important to me.  That’s also connected to my perception of my surroundings, the importance of our environment, and a recognition of our community right here in the Mid-South.

If you’ve driven “around” town you’ve probably seen or heard about the Wolf River Conservancy and the Wolf River Greenway corridor.

I want YOU AND YOUR FAMILY TO JOIN ME, Saturday, September 12th (10-5) at the Vollintine-Evergreen Community Greenline at the intersection of Tutwiler and Avalon FOR OUR “IT’S COOL TO GO GREEN DAY!”  If not here, then we’ll have many satellite events scheduled throughout the day that will include:  a river ride experience featuring canoe and raft rides; a river stroll along sandbars; kids bike rides; Germantown Greenway tour; Bakers Pond and Audubon Hummingbird Festival field trip; bird hike; nature walk; tributary cleanups (good); trash pickups (very good!); community garden tours; stream restoration; and trail making/clearing.

Think of the possibilities here…  You’re taking ONE STEP toward making a better community for yourself and your family.  Better yet, YOUR ONE THING will be the beginning of a sustainable and green community.  Plus, it’s good outdoor fun.  Keep listening to me on 94.1 KQK for more… But I look forward to more outdoor fun with you, and more details on this awesome event AND BEYOND!

It was 40 years ago that man walked on the moon.  Of course (as Paul Harvey said) there’s…the rest of the story.

Radio did some interesting things to remember the day.

Thanks to Rob Grayson for pointing out this piece:  Jack Spector worked at WMCA in New York when he recorded this little ditty for Buddah Records in 1969. This Dickie Goodman type recording spoofed the NASA moon craze in the late 60’s, really rare!  Here it is!

The more well known one for today’s generation is of course “Walking on the Moon” by the Police here.

And of course, there’s “Ziggy Stardust/David Bowie!” and the good ole “Space Oddity” here… Weird stuff.  I like the first two better myself!

Well it was definitely an hour of memories today on the mystery meat lunch hour, featuring “Dance and Disco” on 94.1 KQK… and oh yeah, old school Leif Garrett.  Here’s the mug shot as promised!

It’s really a surprise when child stars DON’T get into trouble.

It has been quite some time since I last blogged…..sadly, I feel like I start many of my blogs off this way. I enjoy blogging, expressing thoughts, sharing ideas and funny stories, but sometimes it just falls to the bottom of the “things to do“ list.  I just got back from vacation. We went to Walt Disney World. That alone would be worthy of at least 3 or 4 blogs. The best rides, best restaurants, favorite moments, amount of times I wanted to strangle my husband. :)  The blogging opportunities are endless.

But instead, yesterday I spent the afternoon in a hot office with 5 other co workers for an HR meeting on benefits and stuff. Great to have benefits, but really not necessary to have an hour long  meeting telling me only one thing has changed since last years hour long meeting.

Steve is on vacation for the next few days. My friend Ron thinks he is up to something, we just can’t figure out exactly what. Is he out of town? Is he having a surgery of some kind? Plastic surgery perhaps? Is he serving time? Is he cleaning out his closet? With Steve,  one can really never be sure.

Things going on this weekend, one is Joe Cocker at the Live at the Garden Concert Series. Weather looks like it will be great. Enjoy if you go.

I guess I am finally able to blog today since Steve is on vacation and not hogging the computer. We not only are forced to share an office, we have to share a phone and a computer. First one in the office when we get off the air gets  the computer. I guess I’ll just have to be faster when he is back next week.

Have a great day!
